Caredig Housing Association is working with Delta Wellbeing to deliver a dedicated falls response service for its residents at Cartref Cynnes in Carmarthen and Tŷ Dyffryn in Ammanford.
The specialist falls response service is available 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year, providing timely, practical assistance when it is needed most.
Residents continue to access support in the same familiar way, by pressing their pendant alarm, pull cord or call point, which connects directly to Delta Wellbeing’s 24/7 monitoring centre.
The service focuses specifically on responding to non-injurious falls, where a trained Delta Wellbeing response officer will attend to provide support, helping residents safely and comfortably from the floor, often avoiding the need for an unnecessary ambulance call-out.
Delta Wellbeing’s response team is registered with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and works closely with the ambulance service. They are highly trained including enhanced first aid, manual handling, the iStumble falls protocol for post-fall assessment, and clinical observations.
Using specialist equipment such as Raizer chairs and Mangar Camel lifting cushions, the team is able to assist individuals safely, while maintaining their comfort and dignity.
Scheme Manager Steve Thornton said:
“We are pleased to be working in partnership with Delta Wellbeing to introduce this valuable service for residents at Cartref Cynnes and Ty Dyffryn.
“Falls can be distressing and may affect a person’s confidence and independence. With ambulance waiting times often longer than we would like, this service offers reassurance that prompt help is available, ensuring residents receive timely support while being treated with dignity and respect.
“This also complements our existing approach, where staff focus on maintaining immediate safety, while ensuring appropriate specialist support is arranged when needed.”
Delta Wellbeing’s Head of Business Development and Partnerships Carla Dix said:
“We’re delighted to be working with Caredig to deliver this important service for residents. Falls can have a significant impact on people’s confidence and independence, and one of the biggest risks is what’s known as a ‘long lie’ – when someone is unable to get up after a fall and remains on the floor for a prolonged period, which can lead to serious health complications, dehydration and increased anxiety.
“Having a trusted, responsive service in place means people can get help quickly, reducing these risks and providing reassurance to both residents and their families.
“This partnership ensures residents receive timely, professional support in a way that promotes dignity, while also helping to reduce avoidable pressure on emergency services.”
