Delta Wellbeing has been awarded a contract by Cardiff & Vale and Hywel Dda University Health Boards to support A&E patients at the University of Wales Hospital (Heath) and Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen.

The service will provide non clinical support to patients within the emergency departments, alongside safe discharge transport and short term wellbeing follow up once individuals return home.

The aim is to improve patient experience, support timely discharge, and help people settle safely at home while reducing pressure on A&E.

The new contract builds on Delta Wellbeing’s established relationship with Hywel Dda University Health Board and marks a significant milestone for the organisation, extending its footprint into the Cardiff and Vale area for the first time.

Through the service, Delta Wellbeing staff will offer reassurance and practical support to patients waiting in A&E, assist with safe transport home for those medically fit for discharge, and provide follow up wellbeing support to help identify any emerging needs and connect individuals with community based support.

The organisation specialises in technology enabled care (TEC) and will be able to advise individuals and provide a range of simple and effective assistive technology solutions to help keep people safe at home, from lifelines and personal alarms to fall detectors and motion sensors.

Delta Wellbeing Managing Director Samantha Watkins said:

“We are really proud to be launching this service across both Cardiff & Vale and Hywel Dda. This contract reflects the trust our partners place in our approach and the experience of our teams in delivering compassionate, person centred support.

“By offering practical, non clinical support and helping people return home safely, we can improve patient experience while also supporting patient flow and reducing avoidable pressures on hospital services. It is particularly positive to be building on our strong partnership with Hywel Dda, where we provide a home from hospital support service for inpatients in wards across Glangwili, Prince Philip and Amman Valley hospitals, as well as 24/7 patient transport, and telehealth packages; while also expanding our services into the Cardiff and Vale area.”

Andrew Carruthers, Chief Operating Officer at Hywel Dda said:

“We have been working with Delta Wellbeing over many years now and our partnership goes from strength to strength.

“The service they offer in enabling patients at our clinical sites to be supported and cared for and returned to their homes and communities is invaluable. Delta Wellbeing helps reduce pressures on our Emergency Departments and we look forward to working with them in the future so together we can provide the best care for our patients.”

The service will operate throughout the week, including weekends and bank holidays, and forms part of Delta Wellbeing’s wider preventative and early intervention approach, supporting people before situations escalate and helping health and care systems work more efficiently.

Delta Wellbeing is a Local Authority Trading Company, owned by Carmarthenshire County Council, which provides assistive technology, 24/7 proactive monitoring and response services to support individuals across Wales to live independently and safely at home.
