Scams are becoming more common, and unfortunately, people who use telecare and lifeline services can sometimes be targeted.
At Delta Wellbeing, we’ve recently become aware of several scams in which customers have been contacted by phone, letter, or other forms of communication and asked for personal or financial information.
While these scams can be convincing, there are simple steps you can take to protect yourself and your loved ones.
The scams we’ve seen
We've received reports of people being contacted by callers claiming to be linked to telecare or lifeline services.
Some have been told that:
- Their alarm equipment needs upgrading.
- They need to pay a fee to continue their service.
- Their payment details need updating.
- They must provide bank details over the phone.
We’ve also seen letters that appear genuine and ask customers to update payment information.
These communications can look official, but it’s important to check that they are genuine before taking any action.
Warning signs to look out for:
Be cautious if someone:
- Pressures you to act quickly.
- Asks for bank details or payment information.
- Requests personal information unexpectedly.
- Claims your service will stop if you don’t act immediately.
- Contacts you out of the blue with an offer or upgrade.
If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts.
How to protect yourself
Remember these three simple steps:
Stop
Don't feel pressured to decide straight away.
Check
Verify who you're speaking to. If you're unsure, hang up and contact the organisation directly using an official phone number.
Protect
Never share personal, banking or financial information unless you're certain the request is genuine.
What Delta Wellbeing will never do
We want our customers to feel confident and safe.
Delta Wellbeing will never:
- Ask for your bank details during an unexpected call.
- Pressure you into making an immediate payment.
- Ask for passwords or PIN numbers.
- Discourage you from checking our identity.
If you’re unsure whether a call, letter, text or email is genuine, please contact us directly.
Additional support in Carmarthenshire
If you live in Carmarthenshire, there is support available to help reduce nuisance and scam calls.
Carmarthenshire County Council offers eligible residents free TrueCall blockers. These devices can help screen unwanted calls and provide extra protection against potential scammers.
If you or someone you know regularly receives nuisance calls, this service may provide additional reassurance and peace of mind.
What should you do if you've been contacted?
If you think you’ve received a scam call, letter, email or text:
- Do not provide any personal or financial information.
- End the call or stop responding.
- Contact the organisation directly using trusted contact details.
- Speak to a family member, friend or carer if you're unsure.
- Report the incident to Trading Standards.
- Contact your bank immediately if you've shared financial details.
Let's help protect each other
Scammers often target people who may be vulnerable or living alone. Sharing advice and talking openly about scams can help protect family members, neighbours and friends.
A quick conversation today could prevent someone from becoming a victim tomorrow.

If you're ever unsure, stop, check and verify.
