Llesiant Delta Wellbeing celebrates 5th birthday

Llesiant Delta Wellbeing is celebrating its 5th birthday.

Formerly Carmarthenshire County Council’s Careline service, it became a Local Authority Trading Company in 2018 and provides assistive technology and proactive monitoring and support to help older and vulnerable people to live independently at home.

Over the last five years, it has expanded its services across Wales using Technology Enabled Care (TEC) to provide a range of solutions in the health and social care sector and to support patients leaving hospital as well as in the community.

The company has increased its workforce by a massive 356% - from 46 to 164, and it has handled 5.2million alarm activations and helped over 600,000 people with out-of-hours emergencies.

The TEC team has carried out an almost 10,000 installations and 14,877 service calls.

Its 24/7 bilingual Information, Advice and Assistance (IAA) service ensures residents in Carmarthenshire have access to the right help and provides support to promote and maintain wellbeing and independence. Since 2018 staff have assisted over 90,000 individuals.

In 2020, Delta Wellbeing launched its award-winning CONNECT service. Funded by the Welsh Government’s Transformation Fund through the West Wales Care Partnership, it provides an enhanced wrap-around lifeline and telecare service to residents across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, shaping the future of health and social care across west Wales.

A total of 6,050 residents have signed up to the service, and an amazing 86,263 pro-active phone calls have been carried out.

The rapid response team have attended 12,651 callouts to assist residents at home in an emergency, for example, if they have fallen and are unable to get back up. Only 6% of these calls needed to be escalated to emergency services, preventing unnecessary ambulance callouts and hospital admissions.

The team also provides ‘emergency bridging’ to support patients in the community with domiciliary care and other needs. Since April 2022, they have supported 564 patients to be discharged from hospital six days earlier, saving 2,292 bed days at a cost of £1,041,943.

The company’s partnership with Hywel Dda University Health Board supports patients to using a range of telehealth equipment to monitor and manage their health at home, and a total of 670 patients across the region have benefitted from this project to date.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Delta Wellbeing staff went above and beyond to support vulnerable residents, helping to deliver more than 8,000 essential food parcels to those in need, and carrying out over 5,000 wellbeing calls to shielding residents making sure they had food shopping and access to medication. They were also an integral part of Carmarthenshire County Council’s dedicated TTP team.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Services Cllr Jane Tremlett said: “When we set up Delta Wellbeing as a commercial enterprise, our aim was to be able to offer an enhanced service to residents across Carmarthenshire, as well as to provide increased employment opportunities and to make an income which could be reinvested in additional services or passed back to the council to support other social care services.

“The company has achieved this and more. It is successfully delivering vital services which are really making a difference to people’s lives; maintaining and improving the health and wellbeing of older and vulnerable people throughout the region, as well as helping them to live as independently as possible in their own homes.

“The company has significantly evolved in recent years and is helping to address the growing demands within health and social care by developing and providing innovative technology-based health solutions and services - ultimately transforming the way social care is being delivered across the region and beyond.

“The switch from analogue to digital will provide even more opportunities for growth providing a vast improvement in the technology that Delta Wellbeing will be able to offer and improving data aggregation to deliver smarter, personalised care and support; making sure the company is at the cutting-edge of what is capable both now and in the future.

“Congratulations and well done to everyone at Delta Wellbeing on reaching this wonderful milestone and for an incredibly successful five years.”
