Keeping people safe, whatever the weather
When winter weather closes roads and isolates communities, the need for reliable support becomes even more critical. A recent incident during heavy snowfall demonstrated exactly how committed our response teams are to ensuring no one is left without essential care.
A call came through to our Monitoring Centre reporting that an individual had gone without a carer visit for 24 hours because the route to their home had become inaccessible. With responders already stretched due to the challenging conditions, staff worked quickly to explore every option to ensure help could be provided safely, but there was no-one that was able to get to them. Two responders stepped forward, determined to reach the individual. Their commitment went far beyond a routine welfare check.
After driving as far as the snow‑covered track allowed, they continued on foot for half-a-mile. On arrival, they delivered the care needed with professionalism, empathy and reassurance. Behind the scenes, communication with partners ensured that longer‑term arrangements were in place, avoiding any further gaps in support once the responders left.
This story is just one example of the extraordinary dedication that underpins our work every day. It’s a reminder that impact isn’t always found in large gestures – sometimes it’s found in quiet determination, a difficult journey made willingly, or the simple act of showing up when someone needs you most.
The contribution of our staff and working hand-in-hand with our community partners, helps make these moments possible. Together, we continue to build strong, resilient support that stands firm even in the harshest conditions.
