World Alzheimer’s Month: Practical support for people living with dementia and their families and carers
Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia touch every part of daily life – for the person living with the condition and for the family and friends who provide care. At Delta Wellbeing, our goal is simple: to give people the confidence to live safely and independently at home for longer, with round the clock reassurance for carers. We do that through Technology Enabled Care (TEC), our lifeline alarms and safety sensors, proactive wellbeing calls, and a local 24/7 monitoring and community response service.
How Technology Enabled Care (TEC) helps – day to day
TEC is about practical tools that quietly support everyday living and raise the alarm the second help is needed. Depending on what matters to the person and their carer, we can combine:
- Lifeline alarms and wearables (the familiar red button pendant or wristband) that connect to our monitoring centre at the touch of a button.
- Home safety sensors such as door sensors and bed/chair sensors, which can provide early warning of risk (for example, if someone gets up at night or leaves the house unexpectedly).
- GPS “go anywhere” devices that offer freedom to keep walking and staying active - while giving carers the ability to locate a loved one quickly if they wander or feel lost.
Because dementia affects everyone differently, our packages are tailored to match the person’s routines, risks and goals – whether that’s medication reminders, safer night time movement or confidence to keep enjoying favourite walks.
Always there: 24/7 bilingual monitoring and local response
When a button is pressed – or a sensor triggers – our 24/7 monitoring team answers right away and organises the right help, from a reassuring chat to contacting family, neighbours or emergency services. Our centre operates fully bilingually, so people can speak in the language they’re most comfortable with.
For non medical emergencies such as non injurious falls, our Community Response Team can attend in person, day or night. Families tell us this on the ground help provides enormous peace of mind, knowing there’s local support to help someone up safely and settle them at home.
Proactive wellbeing calls that prevent little worries becoming big problems
As part of our approach, we make regular wellbeing calls weekly to check how things are going, spot changing needs early, and connect people with community activities or practical support. This proactive contact is especially valued by carers, who know that someone is checking in and can escalate concerns quickly if anything changes.
What this looks like for families and carers
Freedom with reassurance: A GPS wearable lets mum keep her cherished daily walk while you receive an alert and location if she needs help. The goal is confidence – not curtailing independence.
Safer nights: Bed or movement sensors can trigger a call if someone is up longer than usual at night, reducing the risk of falls and supporting better rest for everyone.
A human voice, 24/7: Whether someone feels anxious, has pressed the pendant, or a sensor has triggered, our bilingual advisors are there, calm, reassuring, and ready to coordinate the next steps.
When you can’t be there: If there’s a non injurious fall, our Community Response Team can attend quickly to assist and settle the person at home, often avoiding unnecessary hospital trips.
If you’re supporting someone with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, you’re not alone. Small, well chosen pieces of technology - backed by a caring local team – can unlock independence, reduce worry and give carers space to breathe.
Some of our services are currently only available across Carmarthenshire but we will be expanding these services across Wales very soon.
