World Mental Health Day 2025: supporting mental health in emergencies
The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is “access to services – mental health in catastrophes and emergencies.”
It highlights the importance of having support when life takes an unexpected turn. Emergencies don’t just threaten our physical safety; they can deeply impact our mental health, too.
At Delta Wellbeing, we believe nobody should face a crisis alone. That’s why our trained advisers are available 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year, offering reassurance, guidance, and practical help when people need it the most.
How Delta Wellbeing helps during an emergency
Emergencies come in many forms. For some, it’s a sudden health scare, a fall at home, or a fire alarm going off in the middle of the night. For others, it’s loneliness or anxiety spiralling into something that feels unmanageable. Whatever the situation, our role is to respond calmly, quickly, and compassionately.
Here’s how we help:
👩🏻💻 Trained advisers, always on hand
Our monitoring centre team answers thousands of calls every week. Whether it’s a serious emergency or someone feeling distressed, we’re there to listen and act.
🫱🏼🫲🏽 Providing reassurance in the moment
When panic sets in, a calm and understanding voice can make all the difference. Our advisers talk people through the situation step by step, helping to ease anxiety while getting them the help they need.
✅ Coordinating the right response
If an emergency requires our response team, ambulance, police, or other services, we will make those calls immediately. We will also contact your nominated emergency contacts, which may include family, carers, or neighbours, so everyone is kept informed.
📞 Wellbeing calls after the emergency
The effects of a crisis don’t stop once the immediate danger has passed. That’s why we offer wellbeing calls tailored to each person’s needs, weekly, monthly or quarterly. These calls offer an opportunity to discuss, reflect and rebuild confidence following any experience.
🧠 Supporting independence and peace of mind
Our goal is not just to respond to emergencies but to help prevent them from escalating. Knowing that someone is always there can help reduce anxiety, build resilience, and help people continue living independently at home.
Putting people first
Emergencies are frightening, unpredictable, and stressful, but access to mental health support should never be uncertain. At Delta Wellbeing, we’re committed to making sure that everyone who needs us can rely on us, whether it’s in the middle of the night or during the toughest times of their lives.
On this World Mental Health Day, we want to remind you that you don’t have to face life’s challenges alone. We’re here to listen, help and support your wellbeing whenever you need us.
