Delta Wellbeing’s response team are regional finalists in the Great British Care Awards

Delta Wellbeing’s response team are finalists in not just one, but five categories in the Wales region of the Great British Care Awards.

The awards celebrate excellence across the care sector recognising the work of frontline staff such as care workers and care managers, and those people who have made an impact in other ways such as training and innovation.

There are 21 awards categories in total, which represent all areas of the social care sector, whether it be older people or specialist services, residential or home care.

Delta Wellbeing’s pioneering 24-hour community-based response service has been shortlisted for the Care Team Award, Care Innovator Award, the Putting People First Award and Workforce Development Award and response manager Sarah Vaughan is in the running for the Frontline Leaders Award.

The response team supports residents in the community with domiciliary care and other needs, helping to avoid hospital admissions and enabling people to live independently for longer.

They assist patients to return home from hospital by providing care for a short time until reablement or long-term providers can be sourced; and provide emergency social care support to families who are struggling to care for their loved ones whilst they await further assessments, increases in care provision, or just need additional support short-term.

If there are any concerns regarding care breakdown, sudden deterioration, crises, or concerns over the level of care required, the response team is dispatched to support during this time. This supports the individual to regain their strength and independence and remain at home for as long as possible, avoiding unnecessary hospital admission.

The service is the first of its kind in Wales to be registered with Care Inspectorate Wales and allows staff to be able to provide the necessary care and support when attending to a client at their home should they need it.

Delta Wellbeing is a Local Authority Trading Company, owned by Carmarthenshire County Council, and provides assistive technology and proactive monitoring to support older and vulnerable people to live more independently.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Services Cllr Jane Tremlett said: “I am delighted that Delta Wellbeing’s response service has been recognised in the Great British Care Awards. To be shortlisted in five categories demonstrates just how unique and innovative this service is, helping our most vulnerable residents in times of crisis.

“Delta Wellbeing works closely with the council’s social services teams and with the health board to ensure residents’ ongoing care and support needs are met at home until reablement or a long-term package of care is put in place, helping to prevent unnecessary admission to hospital.

“I would like to congratulate the team for this much-deserved nomination, they work in sometimes very difficult circumstances, but their dedication and compassion never ceases to amaze me, always going the extra mile for their clients, and doing all they can to help improve their quality of life as much as possible.”

The awards are taking place on November 15 in Cardiff.
