Supporting our unpaid carers: Carers Rights Day 2024

Carers Rights Day is an important day that raises awareness of the essential role of unpaid carers and the need to recognise their rights and wellbeing. At Delta Wellbeing, we understand the unique challenges faced by unpaid carers, who often balance care responsibilities with their work, family, and personal lives.

The challenges faced by unpaid carers

Unpaid carers play a vital role in the lives of those they care for, offering support, companionship, and often around-the-clock care. However, this role can have high demands and significant personal challenges, including physical, emotional, and financial strain. Many unpaid carers are left juggling multiple responsibilities, which can lead to exhaustion and, in some cases, isolation.

Carers Rights Day recognises these challenges and provides information and resources to help carers access the support they need. At Delta Wellbeing, we’re here to lend a helping hand.

Emergency carers card for Carmarthenshire residents

Carers carry a purse or wallet-size card containing a unique ID and emergency response number. The card informs others that the holder cares for someone at home who cannot manage without help. Should the carer become involved in an accident or emergency or become seriously ill, other people and emergency services will know the person they care for needs help.

How does the emergency carer card work?

Carers complete a registration form giving details of the person they care for and contact details of up to two nominated persons who could substitute the carer’s place in an emergency or any unforeseen circumstance.

The completed form is sent to us for processing, and the carer receives a Carer’s Emergency Card with a unique ID number. Should someone phone the emergency number on the card, this will inform our Delta Wellbeing advisors of an accident or emergency. We will call the nominated person(s) to make contingency arrangements. If there is no substitute person to nominate in an emergency, we will contact social services to make contingency arrangements for the cared-for person.

How to sign up for the emergency care card

You can apply quickly and easily by completing the online form, which will be sent directly to our team. Please ensure permission from the person you care for and the nominated persons. You can download the PDF document instead of printing it, filling it out, and returning it to us in the post.
